Subhadra Yojana Odisha 2025: Rs 50,000 for women over 5 years
Quick Jump (TOC)
What is Subhadra Yojana?
Subhadra Yojana was launched by the Odisha state government in September 2024 as a direct cash transfer scheme for women. Named after Subhadra, the beloved sister of Lord Jagannath, the scheme aims to empower women across Odisha by providing them with financial independence.
Under this scheme, every eligible woman receives Rs 50,000 spread over 5 years. The payment comes in two instalments of Rs 5,000 each per year, one around Raksha Bandhan and the other during the International Women's Day celebrations in March. The money is transferred directly to your bank account through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).
The scheme is expected to benefit approximately 1 crore women in Odisha. For many rural women in districts like Kalahandi, Koraput, and Mayurbhanj, this Rs 10,000 per year can make a significant difference. It can cover school fees for children, medical expenses, or even serve as seed capital for a small business like vegetable selling or tailoring.

How Subhadra Differs from Similar Schemes
Several states have launched women-centric cash transfer schemes. Here is how Subhadra compares:
- vs Majhi Ladki Bahin (Maharashtra): Majhi Ladki Bahin pays Rs 1,500/month (Rs 18,000/year). Subhadra pays Rs 10,000/year. However, Subhadra has a 5-year guaranteed period, giving a total of Rs 50,000.
- vs Pudhumai Penn (Tamil Nadu): Pudhumai Penn focusses on college-going girls, while Subhadra is for all women aged 21-60.
- vs PM Kisan: PM Kisan gives Rs 6,000/year to farmers. Subhadra gives Rs 10,000/year to women. Both can be received simultaneously by eligible women.
Note: Odisha women can also invest their Subhadra Yojana money in the Mahila Samman Savings Certificate at 7.5% interest to grow their savings further.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can I receive Subhadra Yojana and PM Kisan at the same time?
Yes. Subhadra Yojana is a state scheme and PM Kisan is a central scheme. They are independent of each other. If you are eligible for both, you can receive both amounts in your bank account.
How long will the scheme continue?
The current commitment is for 5 years from the date of your registration. Whether it will be extended beyond 5 years depends on state budget allocations and government decisions.
My bank account is not linked to Aadhaar. Can I still apply?
You must link your bank account to Aadhaar before applying. Visit your bank branch and ask for Aadhaar-DBT linking. It is free and takes 5 minutes. Without this, DBT payments cannot be processed.
Is the Rs 10,000 per year taxable?
No. Cash transfers under social welfare schemes like Subhadra Yojana are not considered taxable income. You do not need to declare this amount in your income tax return.
